A Celebration

Today's post is a bit of an extension from Single Sunday...

I know I said I would only talk about back in the day on Sundays, but I felt this needed to be posted today. Seven years ago today, I got left with a dog-sitter for the first time. I wasn't quite sure what was going on. Here's the story of the events leading up to Saturday, May 19, 2001...

A few days before Mom and Dad had some visitors come from out of town to stay for a few days. They came all the way from Chicago. Dad had been living there for a few years before they got me, and had some friends who lived in the far away land of Illinois. The guests slept on the futon in the spare bedroom at the townhouse where we used to live. They were alright because they smelled like a mixed-breed dog named Chewey. On Friday night, Dad went to
Hennessy's house. He didn't come home that night and I didn't see him again until very late on Saturday. I was very concerned because I hadn't spent a night without both Mom and Dad since I had come from Ma and Paw's house to live with them.

In the morning, our visitors got dressed up in a tuxedo and very nice dress. A lot of other women (Hennessy's Mom, my Aunt, the little biped's future godmother, Mom's cousin, and a bunch others) came to the house and they all put on sage green dresses. They worked on each other's hair and makeup and helped Mom get all pretty too. Mom had a bee-woo-tiful white dress on and pearls and diamonds. Then everyone left. The visitors from Chicago didn't come back that night; they spent the night at a hotel.

Very late that night, Mom and Dad came home. Mom still had her white dress and Dad was wearing a tuxedo too. Someone had put soap, balloons, and streamers all over Dad's car. They spent about an hour unloading presents and went to then went to bed. Very early the next morning, they put me in my crate and left with a bunch of suitcases. Later that morning, one of the ladies who wore the pretty green dress came and spent the rest of the week with me before Mom and Dad came home. They were very tan and had lots of pictures to show me of their cruise in the Caribbean. They went to Puerto Rico, St. Thomas, Antigua, Guadalupe and Aruba.
