Snow Day Part II

Hey Pups,

Time to get back to our events of last Friday. We haven't had any new snow since last Friday but the weatherman says we might get some new, fluffy, white stuff tomorrow night. We sure hope he's right. We're not ready for spring flowers yet.

In part one you all saw how much fun Canyon and I were having and you also saw my "becoming one with the snow". The next thing we did was tear Dad away from the phone and computer, suited up the little biped like the stay-puffed-marshmallow man and headed outside.

Here's some video of an extra-large Siberian husky at work!

Here's our second try of it....

This video show how much of a spaz Canyon was being....

Mom and Dad told Canyon they would get him his own sled dog harness for next winter. Canyon acted like such a spazoid out there and got in the way....the camera goes off the side at times because Canyon yanked too hard on his leash which mom was holding and pulled her off balance. I know he was trying to be just like me. Mom and dad had hooked him up to the sled last year and he spent the entire time trying to run away from it and couldn't figure out why it was following him......ha rooo rooo rooooo!
Canyon in the way......and we lost the little biped!

I lost her again!Time to go inside....the little biped's hands were getting cold...she needs some fur on her paws! Oh,and this is Canyon eating snow!

I hope you enjoyed seeing the rest of our snow day. I must tell you I would not go back inside when they wanted me to. I sat and planted my fluffy butt right in the snow and refused to go inside. So, Mom gave in and took me for a short walk around the front yard and to see if any of the neighbors were outside. After the short jaunt I was ready to go back into the house, get some water, and take a nap!

Dogtown Playdate

Hey Pups!

Sorry to interrupt our snow day series, but Canyon and I thought it was important to share what we did yesterday. Remember back in October we went to our very
first playdate? Well, Mom and Dad finally took us back there to meet up with our MaPaw friends. All total there were 19 of us doggies. We were quite a sight, there was everything from little husky mixes, like Sammy girl, one of the new editors of the MaPaw foster dog blog, to a Central Asian Shepherd puppy (Khan is only 6 months old and weighs as much as Sky). There were lots of bloggin doggies there too, Sammy girl, Magnum, Guiness, Shiloh and foster Dunkin. We have some videos to share with you! Mom and Ma (from MaPaw) were so proud of how well Canyon did. He was a little scared in the beginning but was even playing with a little sibe named Mia. Mom was proud of me because I made sure no puppy was playing too rough with my little bro. She said it was very cute how I kept an eye on him.

I'm the one in the middle.....

Here's Shiloh's happy face....

This is one of MaPaw's newest senior foster dogs, Mr. Dunkin....

This is Canyon and Khan saying hi!

Here's a better picture of Khan....

This is an informal group picture.....Can you believe we got this many humans to cooperate????

We sure had lots of fun and I hope mom and dad take us back really soon. I even got some samples of pizza from mom.....yum!

Snow Day Part I

Hey Pups!

We got more snow today! We all had a lot of fun playing in it. Canyon and I ran and ran and ran ALL over our dog yard. Mom got some good video of us doing our zoomies and playing. Ignore Dad in the background....he was working from home today and wouldn't be quiet when Mom was trying to video us. The other voice in the background is our little biped playing.

These first two videos are of Canyon and I playing in the snow

This is a video of me meditating and becoming one with the snow. If you look closely you can see how fast the snow was coming down....

The last video installment for today is of our "grooming" by our little biped. She takes such good care of us.

Canyon wanted me to end this snowy post with yet another Canyon Snow Snooter picture.....

Stay tuned for what we did outside later in the day with the little biped!

Starting to feel better

Just came in from our last potty break before bed. Dad snapped this picture when we got in. Can you see the snow on my back?

Now of course, it's pretty obvious that there is definitely one thing going on and that's new snow. Wonder how deep it will get... But there's something else this snow on my back shows.

You need to know a few things about our house to understand this: 1) the picture was taken on the main level of the house; 2) we live in a ranch with a partially finished walkout basement; 3) the stairs out of the basement to the yard are on the west end of the house and the stairs from the basement to the main level are on the east end. So, I had to come go all the way from one end of the house to the other (about 60 feet) and up a flight of stairs. I moved faster tonight that I have in ages making this journey. I think the Rimadyl is helping.

We'll give it some time to see how well it does. Dr. Horst wants my dose cut in half after a week, and then maybe cut in half again so that I can be on the lowest dose possible. As long as it continues to work, I'm happy to keep taking it. One other added benefit... Canyon is more jealous now at meal time than ever before. Sky gets his zinc supplement, I get my joint supplement, I get PPA pills dipped in peanut butter, and now I get liver-flavored pain pills. Poor Canyon gets no treat-flavored medicine and he thinks he's missing out. ROTFL...

A Car Ride and other stuff....

Hey Everydoggy,

Dad had off yesterday in honor of President's Day so he and the little biped were home all day with us. Mom ended up coming home early from work on Monday with a bad case of the flu which means - TISSUES IN THE GARBAGE CAN!!!

The little biped went off to her sitter's house down the street and around the corner, so that Mom could rest in bed this morning. When Dad got home from work, he took a pizza out of the freezer and put it in the oven. When it was done, he gave the little biped her piece and gave a few pieces to Mom. He didn't get anything to eat and sit at the table like I expected he would. Instead, he got my purple leash. I wasn't quite sure what was going on because it was too cold for a walk; we normally wouldn't go for a walk after dark; and if we're going for a walk, Dad certainly wouldn't leave his tie on.

We went out, and got in the car. Uh-oh... V-E-T???

Well, that's where we ended up. Fortunately, I like Dr. Horst because he takes good care of me. I don't exactly know what he was talking about with Dad, because I have a hard time hearing, unless it's something I want to hear. Kind of like the "see-lective" hearing Dave from the Army of Four mentioned in his comments the other day. Dr. Horst poked and prodded at my sore hips and listened to my heart and lungs with his cold, metal doo-hickey. So, since I didn't know what they were talking about, I had to steal the examination notes Dad brought home. This is what Dr. Horst wrote about me:

"Now completely deaf at home. Also having alot of trouble getting around. Hips definately main source of pain. Stop aspirin and start Rimadyl. Call if no improvement as Tramadol may help in addition to Rimadyl. OK to continue joint suppl. and PPA."

I got my first dosage of Rimadyl tonight with dinner. It's a liver flavored chewable tablet. It was pretty good. I hope it works and makes my hips feel better. Sky told me that Dad said the V-E-T suggested some carpet runners on top of the hardwood floors to help me get around better.

While we're on the subject of pet care, I thought it might be a good time to throw in a plug for MaPaw's Red Cross pet first aid kits and books. They've been selling really well lately. You may want to consider getting one before they run out. They'd make a good item for Easter baskets or upcoming outings.

7 Weird Things About Us

We were tagged by Quincy and Summer and Prince of Team Husky to play this tag game. We have to tell you seven weird things about us.

1) Canyon sleeps on Mom's feet. Dad doesn't like a dog on his side of the bed. Sky and I spread out and take up too much room, so we aren't allowed on the bed. The only place left for Canyon is on Mom's feet. Me, I think it's because he's a spoiled brat and Mom let's him get away with it.

2) Sky likes horses. We live in Amish country. Everytime he sees a horse and buggy go by (we usually see about 15 per day), he gets excited. He used to scream like a chainsaw and try to break loose from his leash or jump over the six-foot fence, but then he got a "come or else" collar and that taught him not to get so excited about it.

3) Most toys are immortal in this household. We have some stuffies which were bought when I first came to live with Mom and Dad after they adopted me from MaPaw seven years ago. They just don't get destroyed (Sky did go through a short phase of doing this, but only with dollar-store toys). Sky and Canyon will fight over toys and bones, but they don't play tug-of-war. They lay on the floor and bark at each other with the object of desire on the floor between them. Whomever barks loudest wins, but even when Sky wins, he lets Canyon have it.

4) I yell at Canyon every time he comes near me. My arthritis makes stairs hard enough; I don't need the Annoying One jumping on me while climbing them.

5) I'd make a good boxing referee. I let the play-fights between Canyon and Sky go on for a little while and then I break it up. Whenever their playing gets too loud and out of control, I step in between them and push them apart.

6) Canyon is scared of most people. There are a few people he sees often enough that he is OK with them. Most of the time, he just backs away slowly with his ears down and his tail between his legs when he meets someone new.

7) Shhh... This is a secret, I'll only share with my blogging friends. Mom and Dad think I can't hear anymore. I just pretend because I'm the queen and I can do whatever I want.

One final runner-up for this list. Canyon is stupid. He doesn't know how to act innocent after destroying something. This week, Mom found one of her sweaters, which had been neatly folded in the closet, laying on Sky's bed (see he tried to get Sky falsely accused) with a large hole in it. When Mom asked Sky what happened, he wagged his tail. When she asked Canyon, he cowered, put his ears back and tail between his legs, and hid under the kitchen table.

Happy Valentine's Day 2008

Kisses

This post is for three special doggies.

I would like to go first and wish my dear, sweet Pippa a Happy Valentine's Day. Even though we can't be together I am thinking of you!

Sky would like to wish Lola a Happy Valentine's Day also. He hopes she likes the special present he mailed to her.

Sweet Dreams of bewootiful Lola!

The annoying one also has a special valentine. He would like to send "puppy" kisses to Sophie LaBrador. He tells me he finds her pictures absolutely stunning.

XOXOXOXOXOXO, Sophie

This last picture is just for Pippa. I spent the day dreaming of his bewootiful face!

FINALLY!!!

Hey Pups!

Well, finally, Phil's prediction showed some shred of truth. We got a few inches of snow today. Kelsey Ann and I enjoyed some time outside in the dog yard. Later on mom took me outside to pull the little biped on her sled and then Canyon got to go outside and run arond with the little biped. (sorry we don'thave pics of that but mom was busy helping us go sledding) I will now provide you with a pictoral display of our day in the snow!

Yummy! Snow!

THANK WOO!!!

We got an email from Ma today about a gift for the doggies at MaPaw looking for fur-ever homes. A box was waiting with some bones, a leash and a collar. The gift came from Fur the Animals, LLC from Dallas, TX. They are an online purveyor of unique pet products. The really neat thing is rescues can register with them and buyers can choose their favorite rescue so 10% of all web transactions are given back to your favorite rescue. Fur the Animals donated blog-a-thon prizes to Steve and Kat last year. Steve and Kat told me the owners of Fur the Animals have even fostered huskies.

The package also contained a handwritten note from the company's founder:

"We've been following you [MaPaw] through the Kapp Pack's blog. Enclosed is a rescue donation. We figure you can always use leads, collars and rawhide. Good luck!"

One of main reasons that we blog is to help publicize MaPaw. It really nice to see all of our hard work in the blogosphere can make a difference with rescue. Thanks so much to everyone at Fur the Animals!

Thanks and Contemplating a Visit...

Hey Pups!

Sky here! I want to extend a thank woo to the Army of Four for bestowing the award of "E, for Excelllent" Award. We are very humbled to know the Army of Four thinks so highly of us. Now if they could only send some of their snow our way......I only would need an inch or two.....

Which brings me to my next topic, last Saturday I posted about it being Groundhog's Day and the fact that Phil saw his shadow and predicted we would have 6 more weeks of winter.

Well, take a look at these temperatures as of 10:00PM. Remember we live near Harrisburg...

It was warmer outside today than it was in our house! Ok, now this is getting ridiculous....I just heard THUNDER, quick, mom, get The Queen into the closet!

Punxsatawney Phil, remember I only live about 3 hours away from you and I am not above hijacking mom's sibe vibe to come find you. I'm sure that Meeshka, Khyra, and Echo would love to ride along and pay you a visit! Of course, a very friendly one......

Kisses (for everyone except Phil), Sky boy

Girly Boy!

Hey Everydoggy!

I can hardly contain myself. Wait until you see the pictures of what the annoying one, um, I mean, Canyon, had to endure at the hands of the little biped yesterday. I was in the bedroom sleeping on my throne, but my loyal subject, Sky, made sure he came and told me about it. The little biped decided to "paint" Canyon's toenails. It guess that's what he gets for following her around all the time....must be his labrador instinct coming out.

Look at this......it's even pink!

And he just laid there....

He definitely needs some HULA lessons. No self-respecting husky would allow that to happen.

Rodent Prediction

Hey Pups!

Well, I think I have finally met (or at least heard about) a rodent I don't think I would try to eat. Here's the deal: Every year on a February 2nd, a groundhog named Punxatawney Phil, predicts whether we will have 6 more weeks of winter weather or an early spring. This is all according to a German superstition. I can name quite a few huskies, including the three of us, who are wishing for more winter (Echo, Meeshka, Khyra, Indy, to name a few).

This was Phil's prediction: "As I look around me, a bright sky I see, and a shadow beside me. Six more weeks of winter it will be!"
Whether Phil is right remains to be seen....but if he's not right I might have to hitch a trip north to pay him a visit! For more info on Phil you can visit the Groundhog Club here.
Kisses, Sky boy
(OK, Phil, where's the snow????)
