It's official....our Mom is a slacker. I don't know what her problem is lately. Something about spring cleaning, yard work and the little biped's birthday coming up soon. There's almost no time for me to dictate my blog entries to her and certainly she's been lazy reading everydoggies blogs to me.
She even had the nerve to go away for the weekend. For those of you that were guessing, the answer was New York City. Mom said her friends and her had a great time even though they met a not-so-nice bus driver (long story). Mom said she even say a husky when they walked through Greenwich Village. Woo woo!!!!
Thanks for all your concern about Dad and his "home improvement projects". The house and us remained in one piece. Thank Dogness!
I'm off to claw mom into visiting some of my friends blogs.....until next time....

At dinner tonight, Mom and Dad were talking about her upcoming trip. She's apparently going for just one night with a few girlfriends. The little biped asked if she could go with, but was told that it's a ladies' trip only. I still don't know where Mom will be going to tomorrow, but they decided they should give me some clues so that I could guess. I need help everydoggy's help...
Clue #1) This city was the setting of at least three very popular sitcoms that aired at various times while Mom and Dad were in their late teens and twenties. The characters in these three sitcoms were all single and in their thirties. All but one of the characters were yuppies.
Clue #2) There are over 500,000 dog owners in this city.
Clue #3) It is the host-city for one of the most well-known events with TV commentary by Ron Reagan.
Clue #4) At least one of our blogging friends lives in here.
Let me know where you think my Mom is going. We're really going to miss her here, even if it is only 36 hours that she'll be gone.

Pee Ess - Dad wants me to tell you that the house won't fall apart without Mom. In fact, he will even be doing some home improvement projects while Mom is gone. Yeah, that can't be good!

Ok, almost wordless....Mom took this picture of me looking very worried. Why am I worried you ask??? Well, I overheard mom talking to our doggy sitter friend, Megan, on the phone. She was talking about hotels and leaving at 6AM on Saturday!!!!!!
Where is my mom going??????
How long will she be gone????
Will she be coming back??????
I think I need to hide the little biped so she has to come back!
The house is likely to fall apart with Dad in charge!!!!!

This past weekend was the Reading Pet Expo. Mapaw had a booth set up to advertise our foster dogs that need furever homes and for fundraising efforts. Kelsey normally goes to the Meet and Greets so people can see that huskies don't just come in black and white. Mom and Dad recently decided she shouldn't go to these anymore because of her arthritis pain (she's been on Tramadol, an opiate, as needed in addition to Rimadyl for about a week and it's helping her; however, she probably would rather not deal with strange people and kids all day). Canyon wasn't scheduled to attend because he is shy with new people. So, Saturday and Sunday were supposed to be my days to go out with the family.
We dropped the little biped at Dama's and Paw-paw's before going on our road trip... When we got there, I got to where the Donation Dog vest. People can stick money in the pocket so we can help foster dogs like Bravo and Dunkin who need medication for eye issues. Bravo is a 8 or 9 month old puppy who has cataracts. He's looking for a furever home and may need surgery at some point. Dunkin is a 9 year old senior found near a donut shop who has glaucoma and needs eye drops every day. Both of these guys were at the event this weekend and I got to spend some time with them.

Sunday, I got to go by myself. The little biped went along for the day and spent some of the day visiting other rescues' booths, in the petting zoo, watching dog dancing, seeing pot-bellied pigs and enjoying the company of Nana and Pop at the event. It was cute how she kept making sure everyone who pet me knew I was "her" dog. She would pet me and hug me and was even laying on me. It was good Canyon didn't go along this trip because there were plenty of other Mapaw dogs there. Besides Bravo and Dunkin, there were two other Mapaw fosters - Rocky Munch and Sage. Here's some pictures of them.

The weekend was a big success. There were lots of people there. Last year was the first year this event was put on and it snowed on Friday night into Saturday morning. Turnout last year wasn't very good because of the bad weather. This year was a much better turnout and there were people definitely interested in learning how to adopt a Mapaw dog.
We also got to see friends from Harnessed to Hope and DelVal, our partners in the Hike N' Howl event to be held this fall.
Overall, I had a great weekend at the Reading Pet Expo, but now I'm very tired and enjoying rest and relaxation.
Kisses, Sky boy
Pee Ess: Please stop by Sashaville, and leave your respects to her humans. Sasha, lost her battle with cancer today. She was just diagnosed yesterday and had fluid around her heart also. Very sad woos coming from all of us here.

Everyone's favorite huskador on his adoption day!
I am happy to announce our "little" puppy Canyon is now two years old. Canyon is the first puppy I have ever raised and we couldn't have asked for a better "best friend" for our daughter. We decided to keep him and failed foster puppy transport because our daughter immediately took to him and they were, right away, like two peas in a pod. She calls him her best friend all the time, it is SOOOO sweet. We are so happy we've been able to give him a loving forever home after the early beginnings he had.
Canyon is a wonderful blend of Siberian husky and Labrador retriever, hence the huskador title. The Siberian side of him is ultra playful. He has been a great companion for Sky. Kelsey Ann was getting to old to want to play with Sky and Canyon has filled that role well. The Labrador side of him is loyal and easy-going. It is nice to have one dog who wants to be with you all the time. Canyon sleeps in bed with me every night when Dad is away on business. The Labrador in him also allows him to alert us when there is someone outside, which the two non-territorial huskies in this house would never do!
As much as Kelsey complains about Canyon, he is a wonderful dog and we couldn't have asked for a better addition to our family. We hope he has many more happy years here and our daughter has her "puppy" to love and care for. I know he will always be my puppy!

Mom and Dad promised I would get to go somewhere to see prey today. This morning when I woke up, I was really sore. It's the worst it has ever been. I was doing a lot of crying and was really cranky with everyone! I got my Rimadyl in the morning with breakfast. This week, I was alternating between two doses and one dose each day as we try and find the lowest effective dose. Yesterday was a one dose day. It helped some, but I was still really sore.

Thousands of geese
Unfortunately, Mom and Dad kept me on a leash the whole time, so I couldn't go chasing them. (In reality, I didn't feel up to it). Dad tried to help me get into the car after the short walk and I was so sore I didn't want to be touched. I ended up biting his hand because I was scared it would hurt. The walk helped me feel better, I just was having a very bad day. Tomorrow, Dad's going to call Dr. Horst to see about getting some other kind of medicine for really bad days. He had suggested that opiates may be available for severe pain. But, even though I was very sore - I had a great time looking at the birds and spending time with the bipeds without Sky and the Annoying One.

You can see I am not totally convinced of this theory yet. Mom says in time I will get used to my carpet and put all my feety feet on it.
More good news! I overheard mom and dad talking about taking the little biped somewhere special tomorrow. They are taking her to see something that only happens during this time of year. They also talked about taking me along because they said "Kelsey is the least prey-driven of all of them and the other two got to go to the playdate two weeks ago". Woo Hoo! Car ride! Hmmm...I wonder what we are going to see that mom and dad would have to worry about us hunting prey????? Any ideas????
Until tomorrow, Woo woo, Kelsey Ann

(Now go read to your bipeds!)
Saturday, March 1, 2008
For lunch today, the little biped had a peanut butter and jelly sandwich and a glass of grape juice. She was doing pretty well and hadn't made too much of a mess after having eaten three-quarters of the sandwich...
Then, she knocked over her juice cup and the grape juice went flying. Several years ago, Dad removed all the carpet because there was nice hardwood floors underneath. I knew carpet stains wouldn't be an issue. However, the dining area and the living room area are adjacent and there is an over-sized chair that is off-white with red flowers about five feet from the dining table. This chair is behind the little biped's chair and the juice droplets were heading in that direction. I knew I needed to think and move fast. This was a job for Super Sky.
I jumped up and leaped across the room in a single bound to place myself between the flying grape juice and the off-white chair. The chair was saved, but I got hit. Mom wanted to get pictures of me right away with the juice all over me, but Dad rolled his eyes at her and said they needed to clean up first and she and I could just tell the story. As it turned out, the juice stained my white fur, so there are some pictures to prove my bravado.
And on my nose?
Sometimes you just have to take one for the team.
(SMS Members- no, this was not AGJ, this was Children's GJ, no little bipeds were intoxicated during today's events!)
