Day at the Zoo

Hey Pups,

Turns out dogs aren't allowed at the zoo. The bipeds have a membership and go visit a few times a year. Last month, they had plans to go for a member's only day. They would have been able to go "behind the scenes" and see things like the veterinary area, food service, etc; however, it was under 20 degrees that day. They decided to go today because it was unseasonably warm (about 50 degrees F). There were some cats there that I would have liked to chase...

This is the Amur Leopard.

Cheetahs

The mother Amur Tiger. Almost 2 years ago, she had three cubs at the Philadelphia Zoo. The cubs still live there with her, but soon will probably live at other zoos. Their dad now lives in Indianapolis. Her name is Khyra.

These guys sure don't mind the cold weather.

Dad's favorite animal to see at the zoo.

I really would have liked to see the Amur Leopards, Amur Tigers and polar bears. The leopards and tigers are named for the Amur River which runs through Siberia. My ancestors are from there, so maybe the leopards, tigers and I are distant cousins. The polar bears live in the Artic regions of North America. Mom and Dad think I might be part Malamute, or else I'm just an extra large Siberian. Mals are from Alaska, there's polar bears in Alaska... maybe, the polar bear is a distant cousin of mine too. I'll have to get Dad to work on researching that on the genealogy websites.

Well, back to watching the Bud Shootout (I was able to distract Dad because Ryan Newman isn't running the race due to rule changes - Dad's not happy about that).

Get your Bipeds in Shape!

Hey Pups!

I've got a challenge for all my furfriends. It's time to get our humans off their lazy butts and get them moving. I was told about a great program called Idita-Walk by Sir Jack of Coastal New England.

This from the Idita-Walk 2009 Website: "Welcome to the Idita-walk 2009 homepage! An event to promote physical fitness in the spirit of the Iditarod Sled Dog Race. The Iditarod Sled dog race is 1049 miles long from Anchorage to Nome, Alaska. To complete the Idita-walk, walk 30 minutes a day for 35 days between February 1, 2009 to March 31, 2009 for a total of 1049 minutes."

I've gotten my mom to sign-up as a member of Team Sibermal. We usually never get to go for walks so hopefully this will change our humans sedentary behavior. Both the human bipeds could stand to lose a few pounds. I think that they think they're going into hibernation and need to build up thier body fat.

I'll whip them into shape!

As King I proclaim you all to go and register your humans to get fit! It only costs $10 and proceeds benefit Camp Bronson maintenance, scholarships, and numerous youth related programs.

Snowy Saturday!

Here's the view from our back window and front window today. We were about paw deep in snow this morning and we thought that's all we were going to get, but it started up again at about 2:30 PM this afternoon. Maybe we'll all get to go out and play in the snow with the little biped this evening.

A Visit from Santa Paws - An Earth-shaking Experience

Hey Pups,

Christmas Eve and Christmas
Santa Paws was here to visit! Here are some of the pictures.

The little biped shows a toy ice cream set from Grandma and Pop on Christmas Eve.

Every year, Santa Paws leaves a gingerbread house for the bipeds.

She tore open the presents really fast this year (the blue box in front of the fire place is for us!).

Presents at Gama and Paw-paw's house later Christmas Day. Great-gama and Great-pop were there too.

This is what was in the blue box for us! Treaties! Woo-woo!

Meadow with her bone and tomato squeekie from the bipeds.

Canyon thinks his bone is lip-smacking good. He got a strawberry (star-berry in little biped speak) squeekie.

My squeekie is a pineapple. I like it because it's yellow. Orange is my favorite color toy, but yellow is a close second. If they're any other color, you can take it back to the store.

Here's Meadow checking out some of the little biped's toys.
We forgot to bring our bones upstairs with us later, but Meadow brought them all up for us later on. Thanks, Meadow, your a sweetie.
Christmas morning, we also watched the Disney parade on TV and saw Santa Paws at Disney after his marathon trip around the world.
The Day After Christmas
Dad had the day off of work yesterday and Mom had to work, so us pups and the little biped stayed home with Dad and played all day. After Mom got home from work, the bipeds went out to see the new Disney Pixar, Bolt.
Brief plot summary - It's about a white husky (voice by John Travolta) who gets adopted by a little girl (voice by Miley Cyrus) as a puppy from the shelter. A few years later, they are starring in a TV show. The dog has super powers (and he doesn't realize he only has them on TV). He accidentally ends up in a box being shipped from Hollywood to NYC and has to find his way home.
After their trip to the movie theater, they came home with a sick little biped. Fever and vomiting. She passed out on the couch and Mom and Dad left her there since it was easier for her to get off the couch and to the bathroom than from her bed. We went back to the bedroom to snuggle with Mom and Dad and watch TV.
Santa Paws must have gotten home around midnight. Apparently, the reindeer were very tired from riding Splash Mountain and the landing was a bit rough. So rough, it shook the earth. We heard a rumble like thunder and a little bit of shaking. This morning, we found out it was an 3.3 magnitude earthquake and not a crash landing at the North Pole. Glad to hear Santa is OK - just hoping no one was hurt or had serious damage to their homes or businesses. The epicenter was about 31 miles from here.

Today's plans include - sleep, go out to pee, chew on a bone, sleep some more, etc... Meanwhile, Mom and Dad are hoping the little biped feels better soon so they will be able to go see Nana, Pap, Great-Grandpa, Mom's Aunts and Uncles, and the little biped's Uncles and Aunt as planned.

Winter Solstice

Hey Pups!

In case you hadn't noticed our blog was neglected again.....and the reason this time.....my humans went to some stupid place called ARUBA. All they could talk about last night when they got home was how they would like to be back in Aruba in the 90 degree, sunny weather. Are you freakin' kidding me???

So guess what, they woke up this morning to a nice coating of snow on the ground.....that'll show you stupid humans! This winter weather is the best. I just hope we have even more as winter progresses.

Now on a more serious note.....today marks the start of winter and we call this special day Winter Solstice. On this day every year the Siberian Husky world celebrates the lives of those who have earned their wings and run free North of the Rainbow Bridge. You can learn more about it by visiting the Siberian Husky Memorial Page.

My sweet fursister, Kelsey Ann, is on the list this year. We are asking all of our friends to light a candle at 8PM tonight, face to the north, and wish all the 240 huskies on the list Godspeed and a swift trail.

Kisses, Sky boy

Pee ess: We got a special gift in the mail and I will share that with all of you tomorrow and I suppose sometime I will share some pics and info from my human's vacation.

Exploring the Neighborhood

Hey Pups,

This morning, Dad was looking at That Pet Place's holiday catalog while eating breakfast. He told Mom they should buy me a $200 GPS tag to hang on my collar. That way, they would be able to find me. The device will even send Dad a text message on his phone or send an email to the computer so Mom can tell him over the phone where to look for me. What great extents these bipeds will go to in order to ruin a dog's fun. Mom said he jinxed them by talking about a GPS dog tag this morning...

Dad got off work around 1 today. His company usually closes early before a holiday and today was no exception. He picked up the little biped from the sitter and they came home. We three dogs went outside while the little biped had quiet time on the downstairs couch and Dad downloaded Windows updates and anti-virus updates on the computer. After I while, Meadow started to dig a hole. She dug and dug until her hole was big enough to squeeze under the fence. When she did that, Canyon and I started barking to get Dad's attention. He came out to see what the problem was. By this time, Meadow was no where in sight. Dad asked me where she went and I jumped against the fence to show him the direction she had ran (Mom said later that it was a classic Lassie-move - over there, Timmy!). Dad called Mom to tell her what happened and ask her to head home from work so she would be able to watch the little biped while he looked. Dad brought us in, got the little biped and put her in the car. Off they went looking. A few minutes later, they came back on their way the other direction and Dad saw Meadow in the neighbor's yard chasing a bird. He pulled in the driveway and jumped out of the car. He called to Meadow and invited her to go for a ride. She ran around the yard for few minutes and teased Dad, but after a few laps around the yard, she gave in and jumped in the car. Dad reached in the car and snapped a leash on her.

Total exploration time - less than 10 minutes. Chasing birds - priceless.

Meadow, you certainly don't know how to behave like a husky if that's all the time you're going to spend running. I need to teach you some lessons. So next time, dig a deeper hole because you weigh less than 40 pounds and I weigh more than 80 pounds. I'll go with you and teach you how to run.

MaPaw's Newest Angel

Hey Pups,

Remember when I told you about Brandi before the blogathon?

Well, we had some sad news this past Friday. This is the email we received from Ma (of MaPaw)

Early this morning Paw and I took Brandi on one last carride and helped her on her final journey North of the Rainbow Bridge. It became apparent last night that she was ready and we told her it was OK to go, even though we would miss her. We watched her kissing Boston, and Chloe and Taser kissing her. They too knew it was time.

She was a strong girl. She survived sixteen years of abuse and was found huddled next to her sister, who had starved to death. We were so lucky to have her join us for two years and three months when she was only expected to have weeks or months.

Brandi was loved by so many, Paw and I were one of many that offered to open our hearts and home to her. She was the best gift we could ever have. We just wish we could have saved her sister. Selfishly, we mourn her deeply, but know she is alert again and free of pain now.

Thank you to everyone that loved this special girl. Brandi wear your harness proudly sweet one for you haveearned it many times over. Dance among the stars towards the Bridge. Your sister is waiting for you. Many candles are lit to speed your journey.

Brandi, may you wear your silver harness proudly. We are sure Kelsey Ann was there to greet you with the other MaPaw angels.

Brandi was so happy to be part of this year's Hike N' Howl...

More Whining....

Hey Pups!

This have been really awful around here lately. Mom's been sick for a few days which meant all she did was sleep and not give us extra attention. I rained most of Friday and Saturday and we even had a tornado watch yesterday. Dad's leaving again for another business trip tomorrow. The exterminator is coming tomorrow morning to "take care of the ants."

Worst of all, I am not being treating fairly in MY KINGDOM! The first evidence I have of this is the following picture...Can you believe all this princess junk in MY food dish???? And the biped left it there all day! I mean, did the little biped think my food dish made a good throne for Cinderella???
The next situation is the one I find extremely disturbing. Canyon and Meadow got into a fight yet again over something stupid. To not go into tomany details, Mom figured out what caused it again and the humans are working to help Canyon and Meadow to behave better. Mom told me I'm the good one and I don't need to learn anything else. Well, one of the new routines is that Canyon and Meadow have to be in a "down" at food time or in their crates. We were practicing the down, stay which Canyon and I know, but Meadow still needs to learn this. I kept getting distracted by the TV and other thoughts...Khyra, Holly, Storms, Ammy, Eva, Meeshka, Frankie Girl...and all of a sudden I heard dad say "put Sky in his crate if he's not going to listen"
WHAT?????? Are you kidding me??? Me, the King of Huskies, does NOT get crated. This is an abomination! I haven't been crated since I was a puppy. I've earned my place out of the crate by being trustworthy in the house. I made it difficult for mom to get me in there by dragging my feet. She had to slide me across the floor. I wasn't going in without a fight. They gave me some crap about making an example out of me. What? An example of torture???I was secrectly plotting my escape. I was thinking that pin could have been slid out with my tongue...Then I just laid down and gave mom my best cranky face. You know what she did??? She laughed at me. Apparently there was something funny in the fact that I laid diagonal across the crate and put my tail up in the air in the corner. She even called dad over so he could laugh at me too. She tried to cover it up by saying she was laughing because I was cute. Yeah, right, whatever Mom!

I am so NOT amused with this situation. I have awards to accept, but quite frankly I am just not in the mood to do that tonight!

Target is So Cool!

Hey Pups!

Mom sent Dad to Target today to go and buy new sheets. I didn't quite understand why they needed new sheets, I mean they have a whole closet full of them.......summer ones, winter ones, t-shirt materials ones.....why do they need more????

Well, mom was putting them on the bed tonight and called us up there to try them out. They looked pretty nice and were furry soft. Canyon and I lounged for a while as Meadow springboarded on and off the bed a few times.

Can you see what is on the sheets yet???

Here's a closer look....
Can woo guess who's tail that is???
Do woo see the huskies and polar bears???
Meadow decided to stop the Sibernastics long enough to model the sheets too...
Then Mom got camera-happy and started shooting candid portaits of us....
I briefly forgot to emply my SZK methods and looked directly at the camera....

I quickly remembered and wasn't going to let that happen again!

Finally I got the bed all to myself!
Mom said Target has these flannels sheets on sale for $17 for twin, full and queen sizes. They were even big enough to cover our pillowtop mattress with a memory foam topper on it! We give them 12 paws up! Dad even bought a set for the little biped's bed!

Road Trip!

Hi Puppers,

This morning, Mom and Dad loaded up the Sibe Vibe. Out came my leash and I went with them!! The boys stayed home. We spent almost two hours in the car. When we got there, I smelled lots of other dogs. They were all super-be-woo-tiful sibes. The pretty sibes were walking around in circles inside a ring, getting closely looked at, and walking down and back on a path in the middle of the ring. Dad explained to the little biped that the dogs were being judged on how much they looked like an ideal Siberian. Later we met Khyra, the D'Azul Siberians, and Cap'n Maverick. The D'Azul Siberians' mom said she thinks I look like I'm partially Australian Cattle Dog.

We didn't take too many pictures. Unfortunately, the Little Biped got bored. Dad took her to see the some sights at the Gettysburg battleground and he had the camera with him (although he didn't carry it while he and the Little Biped walked). So, no pictures were taken until it was almost time to go. Here's pictures with Eddie. He wanted to be my boyfriend, but I told him about Mr. Mal, so then he tried to be Khyra's boyfriend.

Best of luck to the D'Azul Siberians as they finished the rest of the Siberian Husky National Specialty.

I can't believe this!

Hey Pups!

I thought I should do this post because lately it seems like Meadow has taken over the blog. You see I like to fly under the radar and not get in trouble and then I'm known as "the good one".

I feel so bad that my humans did not allow me to hold to my promise of a blog post everyday until December 14th. I missed doing a post yesterday because my humans, especially mom, were worried about this.....

Mom came out of the little biped's room after tucking her into bed and the mouse ran down the hallway. At one point Dad had it cornered the closet, but mom wasn't quick enough with the box to catch it and it ran away and we haven't seen it since. Mom was all freaked out saying she can't sleep in bed because the mouse might climb on her. I was thinking she was being really stupid because did she really think one of the three of us wouldn't catch it before it climbed on mom? Maybe it would have been fun to watch mom freak out though!

I bet if the humans had seen this mouse they would have been really excited and happy and called all their friends to tell them who came for a surprise visit...

Humans are so stupid....Really what's the difference? A mouse is a mouse is a mouse!

I have exciting news on the homefront to tell you about! Ma from MaPaw contacted us yesterday. A young boy sibe needs our help! He was found as a stray and needs to come out of an overcrowded shelter. Ironically enough, he currently staying in the shelter that is less than 5 minutes from Khyra's house! Mom is meeting a MaPaw volunteer later this morning to pick this boy up. He may only be with us until tomorrow, he has a foster home to go to, but we are the halfway house for him! Should be fun! I'll post pictures later!

As always, don't furget to vote for MaPaw! Click the link on the left!

Awards, Awards, Awards!!!

Hey Pups!

Sorry we've been slacking lately on recognizing the awards we've been given. Mom's been extra lazy with us and the blog so not much dictation has been happening. I'm sorry for not going into details on the awards, but Mom told me I have to make it quick since she's still a procrastinator and has paperwork to finish tonight that's due tomorrow morning.
This first award came to us from Dakota. My mom got to meet Dakota at the Hike N' Howl last year. You can click on the link on the left to sponsor the Kapp Pack in our memory hike for Kelsey Ann.

Our friends,
Thor and Marco Polo, gave us this award. We love your blog too!

Last, but certainly not least, our dear friend, Miss Fluffy Tail herself, Khyra gave us these two awards. Khyra actually gave these to all the members of the Sibermal Society! What a generous friend!

Now that I've taken care of business I thought I'd share what an indoor, rainy day, husky play session looks like. Sorry the lighting is so dark, apparently my humans only believe in ambient lighting...

Foiled Again!

Hey Puppers!

I know you all know of my highly developed skill of breaking into a refirgerator to score some yummy meat stuff. I was planning on doing a tutorial for all pups and then Dad came home with this....
Can you believe this??? Just when I thought I had a good thing going they lock up the thing like Fort Knox!
Well, I showed Mom a thing or two this morning. When she was getting ready for work this morning and after we were fed I broke into the food dish and Mom found me with my head buried in it. She tried to chase after me but I was too fast and did the cute little tail wag/butt wiggle and she couldn't be mad at me anymore. She just laughed and gave me hugs and kisses.
But, here's the bad part......

This was Meeshka's human's idea of a way to stop me....a fingerprint safe....

Meeshka: Please claw your human for me!!!!!
