Goodbye, Pretty Girl

Thank you all so much for your outpouring of love. We are totally overwhelmed by how many lives, human and furfriend, our dear sweet Kelsey Ann touched. She was a very special friend to us. We put this slideshow together to chronicle Kelsey's life with us through the years.

Heavy Heart

Kapp Pack Mom here:

It is with a very heavy heart that we had to let Kelsey Ann go today. She has been battling doggy dementia and this morning we found her stuck between the wall and couch. When my husband got her out she was unable to stand. Before I left for work she briefly tried to stand but was unable. I carried her back to her bed before I left. When I came home at noon she had gotten herself stuck partway under our dresser. I again carried her to her bed. When I came home at 3:45 she had scooted off of her bed but still could not stand.

We took her into the vet and she was very hypotensive. He ran some blood work and that was fine. But it was very apparent she was VERY, VERY sick. It was apparent that she likely had a stroke since she did not have function of the limbs on one side. We could have pushed fluids, done x-rays but that would maybe only have bought ourselves a day, week who knows. This was not anything that was going to miraculously improve. It was in her best interest that we let her go.

May she be running North of the Bridge wearing her silver harness wooing at everyone she meets!

Rest in Peace my Dear Sweet Pretty Girl!

This picture we took just last night for the MaPaw newsletter. I will forever cherish this photo..

Thank you to MaPaw for letting us adopt our pretty girl and to all the SMS members for your love and support . We gave her the best life we could and we will NEVER forget her. She taught us how to love the husky breed and we will never forget that. She will live on in all our hearts.

Blogathon Thanks

Hey Everydoggy,

Thanks for supporting Mapaw, the Kapp Pack dogs and our bipeds during the Day of Blogs this past weekend. Your donations have raised $845 for Mapaw making the weekend a huge success.

Thank you Fur the Animals, Mapaw, Army of Four, Donna, and Khyra for prize donations.

We spent all day Sunday sleeping; Mom and Dad slept some in between turns watching the little biped.

Between Saturday and Sunday, we had 1,311 hits from 585 visitors and 431 of those visitors were first-time readers of the Kapp Pack blog!!!

On Thursday night before the blogathon, we told you about Callie, a very special Mapaw dog. The latest news is she's in the hospital due to cluster seizures. She must remain until she is 12-18 hours seizure free. Please send sibe vibes (good thoughts that is, not Mom's car).

Final Day of Blogs 2008 Post

Hey Everydoggy,

The end is finally here. Mom and Dad have done the final drawing for the blogathon. Here it is....

Congratulations to Randi, Kayla and Maebe's mom! They have a brand new husky blog....go check it out!

A huge husky THANK WOO to everyone who supported us with donations and to those who provided moral support into the wee hours of the night. We couldn't have done it without woo.

I leave you with one last puppy picture

Kelsey - What Have You Been Telling People?

Mom here. I was reviewing posts from tonight to make sure I had all the prizes and winners listed properly. Oh, by the way - Team Husky won the Stinky Pet Spray - Congratulations!
I've found that Kelsey Ann was telling people we were giving away Biloxi as a prize. Even though she may want to get rid of him because all he does is stand and bark at her, he is not a prize on the blogathon. Adoption applications will be carefully reviewed, references will be checked, applicants will be screened on home visits, and Biloxi will be going to the best possible home after proper medical care for his broken and badly set bones. Kelsey, you should be ashamed of yourself for trying to pull something like this off. Maybe next year, we should give you away.

Stay tuned. 1 more post and 1 more prize. The Hold-the-Phone bag will be given away by drawing at 9AM.

Shower Please and last Trivia

Hey Pups,
The humans have been up for a really long time. Dad has been up since 7am yesterday and Mom since 830am yesterday. Neither of them has gotten showers since yesterday morning. We're giving away the final prize which was donated by Fur the Animals, a bottle of pet deodorant.

Other prizes during the last 23 hours have come from Khyra, Mapaw, and the Army of Four's Mom (that prize will be given away at 9am). Thank woo all for your donations!
To win this prize answer the question:
What is the adoption fee for a Mapaw dog?
When we get the answer to this question, it will become clear why Mapaw needs donations. Dogs like Brandi, Biloxi, Callie and others in the past and future have vet bills which exceed this cost. Mapaw is a non-profit so every donation (no matter how small) helps.
Oh and by the way, Congratulations to Team Husky on winning the bracelet. Did you notice when looking for the answer to this prize that the sale of one of these bracelets feeds a rescue dog for one week?
Kisses, Sky boy

Siberian Love Beads

Mapaw volunteers make these bracelets which are sold on the Mapaw website. "While they were not made by tiny Siberian paws, helpful Huskies closely monitored their design and quality control. All proceeds go to the care of the dogs"

We are giving away one of these bracelets. The picture is of samples only. Each of these bracelets is unique, so we don't know what the actual prize will look like. In order to win this, we're looking for the answer to:

If you were going to buy two of these bracelets, what would your cost be including S&H?

Congratulations to Sitka for winning the last prize of a 2007 Hike N' Howl t-shirt.

Trivia #6

Hey Everydoggy,

The next prize is the second of the two Hike N' Howl T-shirts from the 2007 event.

Hike N' Howl will be held for the second time within the next year. It's a fund raiser between Mapaw and two other Siberian Husky/northern breed rescues in southeast PA. Hikers take their dogs with them and collect pledges for this walk. There are food stands, vendors, demonstrations of dog-related things, games, raffle, and silent auction. Your question (first right answer wins) is:

When will the next Hike N' Howl be held?

Woo woo, Kelsey Ann

The answers to the Disney dog trivia, in order, are Nana from Peter Pan, Copper from the Fox and the Hound (Tod is the fox), Bruno from Cinderella, Pluto, and Tramp from Lady and the Tramp. Good job everyone who gave answers!

It was a tie with four correct answers between Steve and Kat and Team Husky.....but when we drew names........Summer and Prince of Team Husky are the winners!!!

Disney Dogs...

Ok, we decided our criteria may be a little to high for 6AM so we are changing it to whoever gets the most correct wins the prize. In the event of a tie we will pick the names out of a bag to see who wins. Here are the pictures...

The prize is this lovely set of dog-themed note cards with envelopes. They come in their own decorative tin.

Remember, you are giving the name of the DOG not the movie...

Good luck!

Woo woo, Kelsey Ann

Get Ready...

Hey Everydoggy!

I'm up for my 6AM stroll around the house. I thought I'd give the boys a break and tell you about our next game. We will be posting five pictures of dogs from Disney movies. You will have to get four out of five right to win the prize. You will need to give the name of the dog, not the movie.

START THINKING!

Woo woo, Kelsey Ann

BTW, we had a few more donations and we are up to $830!!!!! THANK WOO!!!

Playtime, yeah right....

We are going to create an optical illusion right now. What you see in this video is Biloxi and I playing....

This is what is really happening....did I fool you???

Congratulations to Summit the Super Mal (with help from Princess Eva) who won the second of our two giggl blue fire hydrants! Good teamwork!

This Post Was Supposed to Be for Giving Away a Prize

Mom and Dad had written down subjects for almost every post starting at 10pm figuring it was going to be tough to come up with things to blog about as they got more tired. This 5AM post was supposed to give away a prize to the 5th comment on the 430 post. Yeah- you were probably figuring on that prize coming up the next half hour after seeing the last 3 posts. Well, that's what its turned out to be now. We didn't get 5 comments on the last post because EVERYONE IS IN BED except us and the four of you who've been consistently reading and commenting all night!!! Thank Woo!!! For the rest of you - BEEP-BEEP-BEEP - the alarm is going off. 5th comment on this post gets the next prize. We're not telling what it is. OK, so since you know that the 5th comment gets the prize there is a rule here on this - you may not do consecutive comments.

The Other Animals in the House

We have fish. This is a 55-gallon tank with approximately 20 African cichlids. Dad got into cichlids when he was in college. He started with Jack Dempsey cichlids which are a South American cichlid. He had three juveniles. One survived the fighting for territory (which is characteristic of cichlids) and grew to nearly 10 inches in a 10-gallon tank. Dad needed to get a larger tank for her so this one was bought. Unfortunately, she didn't survive much longer. Africans were purchased next. These fish were in the tank for several years until a vacation two years ago. During a fight, the heater got broke. The broke heater resulted in an increase in temperature and changes in temperature are bad for fish. So, this group of cichlids was purchased.

Occasionally, we get a mouse in the house too... Cats like mice, so we're giving away a mouse shaped laser pointer to the 4th commentator on the 4:00 AM blog post.

The 4th poster was Steve and Kat. Hopefully this will bring Wilbur back since the toy is more suited to a cat.
Kisses, Sky boy

Win Biloxi - Final Criteria

Hey Everydoggy,

Mom's off doing laundry again. The final criteria for winning Biloxi are:

- He's a puppy and he likes to sleep a lot, so you must have a soft bed for him (we're thinking about bed a bunch at this point)
- Our back yard has some bugs this time of year (lightening bugs, cicadas, flies, etc). Biloxi has learned to like eating bugs, so you must have bugs in your yard or house for him.

OK, I know - we're getting tired and this is kinda ridiculous, but it's the best I could come up with.

Oh - here comes Mom. Remember don't say anything about this to the humans...

Surprise Giveaway!

Hey Pups!

I didn't tell woo but we planned on giving away another prize to the 3rd to comment on our last post. Well, the winner is Princess Eva and Brice! They have won the 2nd of our two Hallmark husky ornaments.

Getting back to past contests....the winner of the rawhide chews is River the Beagle! He correctly guessed that Skye was the foster dog who was a family hero.

Congratulations Pups!

Kisses, Sky boy

Husky Hospice: Brandi

Hey Everydoggy,

I wanted to tell you about my friend Brandi. She's one of the dogs being supported by donations to Mapaw. Here's her story:

"Brandi was a senior female husky mix in urgent need of saving. Her story was a sad one, she was kept in a yard her entire life, year round with a female companion (possibly a littermate). Both Brandi and her friend shared the same name, the owner couldn't be bothered to give each of them their own identity, much less quality life. These sweet girls were thrown food when their owner remembered to feed them and were given a tarp-covered carport they shared with rotting garbage and old car and broken down equipment.

"There were no walks, no playtime, no human companionship, no love. All they had were each other. Then one day animal control was called and Brandi's friend was found starved to death and Brandi curled up by her side mourning her only friend and on the verge of starving to death herself.

"Brandi was taken to a safe shelter where she was wonderfully affectionate with humans. You could see in her clouded eyes how happy she was when they walked into her kennel to pet and to talk to her and how they would shake when they walked away, probably wondering what would happen to her next. She spent the majority of her time huddled in a ball in the corner of her kennel wimpering and shaking until someone woul come near. A dog that never knew human love still seeked affection and when touched she just nuzzled closer and closer. Brandi still had hope.

"We welcomed Brandi into our Husky Hospice Program and were told she needed a warm and quiet home to spend her final days. That was over a year ago and every day is a wonderful gift for both Brandi and for us.

"Brandi is now seventeen and is respected and loved. She is being spoiled and enjoys going to work with her foster mom every day. She has gained weight and enjoys many goodies and privileges to make up for her prior life. She has become partially deaf and we've supplemented our kind words with lots of hugs and kisses. She is starting to slow down but she is comfortable and happy. Most importantly, she knows she is loved very, very much."

Here's some pictures of Brandi. The first is of our little (baby) biped on the left and another Mapaw junior volunteer.

Trivia #5

Hey Pups!

It's time for another trivia question. These winner will receive these rawhide treats (these are MADE IN THE USA from USA beef)...

Ok, so you saw the prize....now here's the question...

Which MaPaw foster dog is a hero for defending a young member of his family?

Kisses, Sky boy

What Mom and Dad are Doing to Stay Awake

Around 11:45PM, Dad was sent to a local convienence store to buy some Tastykakes and chips. Extra carbs and sugar to provide an energy boost. After watching a few Saturday Night Live reruns, Dad went to retrieve some DVDs. He returned with The Simpsons Movie and Big Daddy. Neither of these interested Mom. He took them back to the shelf and got Rush Hour and Rush Hour 2. Mom decided these would be OK and went to do more laundry. She came back with the American Pie Trilogy. They agreed that this was by far the best choice so now, we're about an hour into the first movie. Hopefully, they will get to watch all three before the little biped gets out of bed.

They're pathetic

Last Call!

Hey Everydoggy,

In Pennsylvania, the bars close at 2AM. That means last call is at 1:30AM. So in honor of Last Call at bars all over Pennsylvania, we're giving away two prizes donated by Khyra. We have two pilsner glasses (the picture shows just one) and a t-shirt featuring the beer Siberian Night from Thirsty Dog Brewing Company (Khyra also gave some Siberian Night coasters which will be added randomly to various prizes given out during the blogathon). Other beers from Thirsty Dog include Rasberry Ale, Hoppus Maximus and Old Leghumper. Here's the prizes followed by video of the drawing and naming of the winners.

Remember, make sure you have a Designated Driver.

We Were Given Another Award

We've received the Brillante Weblog Award from two bloggers. We got it from Star and Jack-a-roo and from the Army of Four. Thank woo for this award.

After reviewing all of the suggestions for excuses of what I should tell Mom when she notices Biloxi is missing, I've decided that Holly's suggestion is the best:

"Biloxi found a pirate ship, captained by our own famous Captain Maverick, and he is taking him down to Luuusianna for some good tasting cajun food, with some shrimp, and crawdads and some yummy jumbalia!!! He might even be visiting pretty MayaMarie for some tasty Happy Hearts cookies for desert!!"

Princess Hollybollybananaboo wins this nice fluffy, squeaky duck

Woo woo, Kelsey Ann

Help!

Hey Everydoggy!

Sitka found a huge, gaping loophole in my plan. I need a solution fast! I need excuses for why Biloxi isn't here anymore!!! The pup (or cat) with the excuse I think is the best will win a prize!

Make it a good one!

Woo woo, Kelsey Ann

Cornelia Marie is the lucky winner of the wolf statue!!!

The Wolfing Hour

Some say midnight is the Witching Hour. I say it's the Wolfing Hour because stupid people ask my humans all the time if we're wolves. Like they'd really be walking around in public (in a state where wolf hybrids are illegal) with a wolf on a leash. OK, so Siberians do look something like wolves and a lot of our behavior is similar to wolves, but we are DOGS!!! Mom and Dad learned a lot about the similarities between wolves and huskies when visiting a wolf preserve in New Jersey four years ago. Later that same year, Mapaw volunteers took a field trip there. Dogs aren't allowed, but we saw pictures and heard about the trips after Mom and Dad returned. Some of the similarities (beyond the looks) include:

- Pack behavior, why do you think Sibe owners have more than one. It's not because we're like Pringles.
- Communal pup rearing, hence all of teaching Biloxi how to act like a Sibe
- Territory, Kelsey's is the bedroom

OK, so in honor of the Wolfing Hour, we've got a wolf statue (sorry the picture is crooked, the humans are too lazy right now) to the first person or dog who has this answer and gave a donation.

Which hemisphere is the constellation, Lupus, in?

Good luck.

Secret Prize info....

Hey Everydoggy,

Mom has gone to start laundry. I grabbed my chance to tell you more about the Biloxi give-away. So far, in order to get him you have to meet these criteria:

- Donated to Mapaw in the Day of Blogs
- Enjoy eating Southern food
- Able to withstand the Siberian Puppy Death Wail
- Send a self addressed stamped box, with enough postage for 25 lbs, and large enough to hold Biloxi and all his belongings

The next two criteria necessary to be eligible to win Biloxi are:
- Being willing to share all of your toys (human or dog) or having a room you can lock them in. Biloxi tried to steal the little biped's toys four times during story time tonight
- HULA membership so that he can continue to be educated in the ways of Siberians that the Kapp Pack has begun

Gotta run, Mom just came back from starting the laundry.

Woo woo, Kelsey Ann (remember this is just between the pets, don't tell the humans)

Interruption...

We now interrupt this regularly scheduled blog with a word from one of our sponsors...

The Kapp Pack asked their audience to help them with finding a way to motivate their humans to keep them up for blogathon. As you may recall, I had a bit of difficulty with the human woman last year with that very same problem. In my case, she was playing with the bug zapper and accidentally zapped herself unconscious. She's such a weenie.

But through her pain and misery, I have perfected the human motivational tool, I call it:THE MEESHKAVATOR!

When correctly applied to the inside knee of a human, a harmless jolt of energy will surge through their body, thus waking them up from the soundest of sleep. Apply the Meeshkavator to a toe and watch them dance!

Yes, you too can motivate your human to do the simplest of tasks such as: feeding you early, scratching your belly, moving over onto the dog bed on the floor to give you ample room on the human bed. There are endless possibilities when armed with the MEESHKAVATOR.

Order now and we'll throw in some claw cream, a $19.95 value, but all you have to do is pay for shipping and handling.

Brought to you from MEESHco

Thank woo, MEESHco! A solution to our human fatigue situation!

Little Biped Bedtime

We now have the last drawing of the night by my little biped...

Congratulations Steve and Kat, this is your prize!Next we had bedtime stories in the little biped's room.

The first book was, Good Night ChicagoThe second book was titled, For the Love of the Cubs, an alphabet book featuring Chicago cubs facts. This is a nightly routine for us to listen to stories in her room. We usually get some really good snuggle time too. That is, in between the humans chasing Biloxi down to take the little biped toys out of his mouth!

Toys Khyra Brought

A few weeks ago Miss Fluffy Tail was here to visit. She brought some new toys for us to play with.

Here's Biloxi playing with a red ladybug toy

He's trying to decide which one to get, the cat or the orange ladybug

Biloxi trying to get me to play with him but I was starting to fall asleep here

She brought us ladybugs because they are one of the little biped's favorite things.

Congrats to the winners of the wolf blanket, D'Azul Siberians. The correct answer was gray wolves were placed back on the Endangered Species list.

What's the problem?

Hey Everydoggy!

I don't get it. Something has started happening here. The humans are moving slower and slower and are startig to talk to each other and are having a difficult time understanding what the other is saying. I need some ideas to help these humans to continue transcribing the blog for us. They've got another 11 and a half hours to go. I don't get how they can be so tired already. I can see now it's going to be a long night of wooing and clawing to keep them awake.

One of my first efforts to keep them awake will be to give away the wolf blanket. I don't want them using it to curl up and go to sleep so it needs to be claimed by somebuddy!

Here's a picture of it...

In order to win the blanket you will need to tell me: Why were wolves in the headlines this week? and Which wolf species does this affect?

Good luck!

Dog Olympics

Hey Pups,

A few nights ago, I was training for Dog Olympics. My event is Speed Obedience! This event requires mastering four commands and completing them in as little time as possible. Sit, shake, other paw, lie down. My time was 9.78 seconds! Can you beat it?

Yummy!

Hey Pups!

We just got an extra special after-human-dinner treat. I used the George Foreman grill to make the humans burgers so mom peeled some of the zucchini and cut it up and put in on the grill with the burger drippings still on it!

Check this out!

Here they are cooked and ready to eat...I think it's yummy...Biloxi liked his too...

Last half-hour, we had two trivia questions. Peanut won the leash and Sitka won the collar bling! Congratulations to both of you.

For the collar bling - Which dog available for adoption from the rescue which we support was named for a treat at an ice cream chain?

Finally, we got another donation of $50. We've now collected $795!! WOOOOO!!!!
